| CLINICAL TRIALS Overactive Bladder Study (BRIDGES) The BRIDGES study (Bring Simple Urge Incontinence Diagnosis and Treatment to Providers) is seeking volunteers over 18 years of age who experience loss of urine with sudden, strong desire to urinate, and report urinary frequency and urgency. The purpose of the study is to determine if (1) responses to a simple questionnaire can provide an accurate diagnosis of incontinence type and (2) a drug called fesoterdine (Toviaz™) is more effective than placebo in reducing the frequency of UUI. Fesoterodine was approved by the FDA in October 2008 for treatment of overactive bladder/urge urinary incontinence. The medication has been available in Europe for many years. It is a once a day medication which in previous trials has proven effective in controlling the symptoms of OAB. This is a 12 week randomized, placebo controlled study. The screening work-up is simple and designed to simulate a typical clinical practice visit. Potential participants will be given a simple 3 question Urinary Incontinence Questionnaire (3-IQ). Those meeting the criteria for UUI will then be given a three day urinary diary to validate the diagnosis. Once enrolled, subjects will have 3 additional visits and a phone call, and be asked to complete urinary diaries two more times. Participants will receive a small reimbursement for their time and travel. When the 12 week randomized study is completed, participants will be
offered the opportunity to continue in the 9 month open label extension
portion of the study. Women interested in volunteering for this study can call the study office at (415) 885-7547.
